Product description : Aircraft model: Vought F4U-1 Corsair

To reproduce this mythical device on the queen scale of 1/32, the designers of Tamiya have spared no effort or means. They examined actual airplanes in detail at five museums in North America and looked at the original blueprints. The result is the most faithful and detailed model of the famous Corsair ever produced! Exterior surfaces reproduced with finely represented structural lines and rivets. Fully pictured Pratt & Whitney R-2800 engine with oil cooler, intercooler and air ducts, all visible through removable hood panels Carefully detailed cockpit, no floor as in real life. Open or closed canopy. Wings can be built extended or folded. Detailed folding mechanism. Separate mobile surfaces. Adjustable flaps and elevators. Landing gear extended or retracted at the option of the fitter. Rubber tires. In-flight presentation support included. Many photo-cut pieces (two boards) including the pilot's harness, air intake grilles and various details. Ventral bomb holder. Three marking options. Very precise assembly and decoration instructions accompanied by a 12-page B5 format documentation booklet.
History : The F4U-1 is the first operational version of the famous American fighter Corsair. He was the first American fighter capable of reaching a speed of 400mph (644km / h). The F4U-1 version was characterized by its frame canopy which earned it the nickname "Birdcage". Before' being replaced by upgraded versions, the F4U-1 operated in the Pacific from land bases from February 1943 to mid-1944. It proved superior to Zero in many areas, exploiting its high speed in close combat to counter the maneuverability of the Japanese hunter. It is on an F4U-1 that the famous Major Gregory "Papy" Boyington and many other aces of the US Navy and the Marine Corps have distinguished themselves. The F4U-1 is one of the main instruments of the Allied victory in the central part of the Solomon Islands (Guadalcanal) which initiated the long reconquest of the Pacific until the surrender of Japan.
